Life Beyond Work

Applied Pavement Technology frequently sponsors events for employees and their families, including happy hours, tailgates, cookouts, and other activities.  Some of our recent events are described in further detail below.

Prairie Wind Ensemble Orchestrates Event at Firm Ofiice

November 2010

For the third consecutive year, Applied Pavement Technology provided a space for the local Prairie Wind Ensemble to host its annual November fundraising concert and wine tasting. The firm is housed in a former opera house, so the stage serves as the perfect venue for their performance. This year, the ensemble played Beethoven to an audience of approximately 100 people. Applied Pavement Technology is always proud to support the local arts community.

Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Outing

November 2010

Ever wondered how much wood a staff of engineers could split in a day? A group from Applied Pavement Technology’s corporate office in Urbana trekked to nearby Monticello, Illinois, to find out. For the annual company-wide volunteer project, the staff undertook this challenging and labor-intensive volunteer project in conjunction with former FHWA employee Keith Herbold’s Habitat for Humanity group. The wood from the project was donated, and volunteers cut, split, and delivered the wood to buyers. The monetary proceeds support Habitat for Humanity efforts.

Wii Bowling Tournament

November 2010

During the week of November 8, employees gathered around the conference table at the Urbana office during lunch to watch or play in Applied Pavement Technology’s first official Wii Bowling Tournament. Eight players filled the bracket, and by the end of the week, only two finalists were left standing: Mat Brynick and James Krstulovich. On Friday, they competed for the title of Wii Bowling Champion. The champion, James (pictured on left), was a novice on the Wii prior to the tournament, but he beat out even his most experienced competitors!
