APTech Engineers Take the Spotlight at National Asset Management Conference
APTech is proud to play a leading role at the 15th National Conference on Transportation Asset Management, taking place in Chicago from August 26 to 29. Hosted by the Center for Transportation Research and Education at Iowa State University, this conference serves as an important nexus for transportation professionals—bringing together public and private sector experts to share best practices for keeping the nation’s infrastructure safe, reliable, and resilient.
Session themes at this year’s event will cover a broad range of asset management topics, including case studies, results communication, and data best practices. Further sessions will also touch on how asset management relates to other timely transportation topics, like risk, resilience, and technology innovation.

Keynote Address: Is Asset Management Resilient Enough to Thrive in the Next Decade?

APTech founder Katie Zimmerman will open the conference as keynote speaker. Katie has devoted her more than 40 years in the transportation industry to helping public and private agencies effectively manage their infrastructure assets. Known for her visionary leadership in pavement and asset management, Katie will share her insights into the future challenges asset management practitioners will face and ways to overcome them.
“I believe transportation asset management has been built on a strong foundation that will enable it to survive in the next decade as a valuable tool for managing a network with limited resources,” said Katie.
“But I’d like to see asset management do more than survive—I’d like to see it thrive. During my keynote presentation, I will offer suggestions for how to do that in four key areas: technological adaptability, system flexibility, policy and governance alignment, and workforce and knowledge continuity.”

Presentation: Effective Lifecycle Planning

Brad Allen, Senior Engineer in APTech’s State and National Agencies division, will present an overview of life-cycle planning, a critical part of the asset management process. His session is part of the Asset Management Practices track, the lively kickoff to the conference that will share insights into everything from advanced asset management strategies to real-world applications—equipping attendees with the necessary tools to improve performance and investment outcomes.
Panel Session: A Conversation with the Asset Management Expert Task Group (ETG)

Brad will also moderate this high-level panel discussion, featuring members of the Asset Management Expert Task Group (AM ETG). Reflecting the group’s new emphasis on state, regional, and local transportation agencies, this session will highlight a recent meeting between the AM ETG and New Mexico DOT.
